A volleyball team in Strathmore is off to a great start to the season by bringing home gold.

The Strathmore U14 Chaos Girls Volleyball team is only a few weeks into the season but is already setting personal records.

The team took home gold during their first tournament in Camrose and recently won bronze in their first Alberta Volleyball Association (AVA) premiere.

Coach Erin Brassard says these are both huge accomplishments for the club.

“This is our first year doing this well in tournaments. I have a few returning players from last year and some new girls as well, and they have come a long way,” Brassard said.

To prepare, the team has been practicing twice a week, and many also play beach volleyball in Calgary for additional training.

This is the second year that Brassard has coached the team, and she is proud of the team's progress so early into the season.

“With every single game, I see improvement; they are such a great group of girls, and they deserve to be recognized for their hard work."

Tryouts for the team took place at the beginning of December.

Practices started in January, and the team will play until provincials, which will be held at the end of April.

“A big goal for us would be to be in the top three divisions by the end of the year in the entire province."

Next, the team will compete in an exhibition game against Brooks in Bassano, then in another tournament in Calgary.

After that, the team will be preparing for their next AVA premiere in Calgary on March 2 and 3.
