If you want to support a good cause while also giving yourself a chance to earn some holiday spending money, the Strathmore Overnight Shelter has just the thing for you.

The shelter is holding a 50/50 draw to help cover the additional costs that come with winter. It's running until December 31, and you can enter on their website here. Pastor Elizabeth Karp explained the extra funds are needed, especially for winter.

"My utilities are up to $3500 a month in winter, so our utility expenses go up, and with food costs and things like that as well, we know food is more expensive, it's more difficult, and typically we have some more people trying to get in from the cold," she said.

"We do over 50 loads of laundry a week, plus the showers and everything."

For comparison, utility costs in September are around $1500-2000 a month. Karp said she's always very appreciative of the community's willingness to support the shelter, and hopes they can continue their strong support as we head into the holiday season.

"The community is awesome in supporting us, and we're super thankful for the support the community gives us. I just want to say thank you to everybody."

Outside of this 50/50 Councillor Wegener's Charity Challenge is also ongoing until December 21.

Karp added any donations at any time are always greatly appreciated, and donations of other items like food, laundry detergent, and other useful goods are gladly accepted.
