Team Canada has defeated Slovakia 6 to 1 today at the quarterfinals of the IIHF World Junior Championships.

Canada opened up scoring in the first period when Barrett Hayton scored from Alexis Lafreniere and Dylan Cozens. Canada chipped four more pucks in the net in the second to make it 4-0, the first by Connor McMichael from Joe Veleno, and the second by Jacob Bernard-Docker from Jamie Drysdale and Dylan cozens.

After a Slovakia penalty for interference, Canada’s Liam Foudy scored from Ty Dellandrea and another Slovakia penalty for hooking resulted in a power play goal by Alexis Lafreniere from Calen Addison and Barrett Hayton.

In the third, Canada started the period with a power play goal by Barrett Hayton from Calen Addison. There was a Slovakia goalie change and then Slovakia got on the board with a goal from Oliver Okuliar from Kristian Kovacik. Canada’s goalie Joel Hofer blocked 44 shots in the game.

Canada now will wait for the results for the two other quarterfinals to find out who they play on Saturday in the semifinals.
