The Calgary Roundup Band and Calgary Stetson Show Band are gearing up to unleash a 'Celebration of Sound' in Chestermere this year.

Claire Ashworth, the team lead for band recruitment in Calgary, says the show is one of the many field show performances the bands put on yearly.

"This is the first year we are doing it in Chestermere, however, which is exciting. It is hosted by the Calgary Roundup Band and the Calgary Stetson Show Band, but the Calgary Stampede Show Band and the Our Lady of the Rockies Marching Band will also perform there."

Ashworth explains that they didn't initially plan on having the performances in Chestermere.

"If I'm being honest, we originally planned this performance for Calgary last weekend at Hellard Field on Shouldice Park, but unfortunately, when the water pipe burst, that whole field flooded."

But instead of canceling the performance, Ashworth explained that they just looked for a new venue.

"We decided to reach out to other cities surrounding Calgary to see if we can find a performance facility."

As for what they expect the turnout to be, Ashworth says she isn't too sure.

"The friends and family of the members performing. But the great thing about being in Chestermere is, hopefully, some new audience members."

Ashworth says they are also always looking for new marching band members.

"We always contact Airdrie and Okotoks, so expanding to Chestermere would be fantastic."

Ashworth told us how excited the bands are to perform in a new place.

"I can't emphasize enough how excited we are to perform in Chestermere and showcase these bands."

The performance will occur on June 23 at 3 p.m. at Chestermere High School.
