Standard was a busy place to be on Saturday as they celebrated their centennial celebrations.

It was a day filled with activities for the entire family; demonstrations were held that included showing how thrashing was done over the past 100 years.

Mayor Martin Gauthier was thrilled to see the support from the community and thankful the day went off without a hitch, and even though it was a hot day, it was better than having rain.

One point of pride for Mayor Gauthier was seeing the land where Standard School used to stand to be christened Centennial Park and make its mark for families to enjoy for years to come.

Plans for this event initially started back in 2019, but when COVID hit they were put on hold. Brent Gregory explained that it was over the last 6 months that plans really kicked into high gear, with their last planning meeting having over 40 people in attendance ready to help to make the day a success.

When it came down to it Gregory couldn't be happier with how it turned out, "It went better than we probably expected, anyone I talked to said that it was a phenomenal day."

Gregory also extended thanks to the Town of Strathmore for bringing out a traveling water park for the kids, and to the Strathmore AG Society for the use of the people movers, those along with a train (that was a huge hit he noted), was crucial on such a hot day to help keep everyone cool, and moving to enjoy all of the activities the town had planned for the day.

Along with the activities held throughout the day, there was a dinner catered by the Irricana Lions, and Entertainment throughout the evening from local artists including Aaron Krabsen and the Cat Country Band followed by Drew Gregory.  And of course, a celebration of this size would only be complete with a great fireworks show to cap off the night.

There were Municipal, Provincial, and Federal dignitaries in attendance including: Standard Mayor Martin Gauthier, Rockyford Mayor Darcy Burke, Wheatland County Councillor Shannon Laprise, area MLA Nathan Cooper, and Strathmore/Chestermere MLA Leela Aheer along with Bow River MP Martin Shields.

It was a party for the ages, and for those in attendance, it was a chance to reconnect with many they had not seen in many years.  Standard, like many communities in Wheatland County, has been around for years and is seeing growth with families coming back to the area. With the expected growth and thriving community, Standard should continue to be around for many years to come.
