Three People Inducted Into The Alberta Agriculture Hall of Fame

Three men have been inducted into the Alberta Agriculture Hall of Fame.

Garnet Altwasser, Ronald Howard, Dieter Kuhlmann were honoured for their contributions to the cattle feeding, crop science and green house industries.

They were honoured at a ceremony in Leduc on Friday, October 26.

 

Canadian Beef Industry Sets Its Sights On Japan In New Trade Deal

The Canadian Cattlemen's Association is excited Canada has ratified the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.

The Association's Director of Government and International Relations, John Masswohl, says Canada could easily double beef exports to Japan within the first year of the trade deal.

Masswohl says, reduced tariffs through the agreement will mean more money staying in the Canadian market, which will be passed onto producers through more aggressive bids from feedlots and packers trying to keep the cattle in Canada.

The Canadian Cattlemen's Association says the agreement will come into effect on Sunday, December 30.

Canada has ranked as the world's fifth largest exporter of agricultural commodities since 2011.

 

Harvest Starting to Wrap Up In The Province

 Alberta Ag and Forestry's latest crop report shows the nice weather helped farmers get a jump on harvest last week.

Over 78 per cent of Alberta crops are now in the bins.
