Three separate vehicle incidents in Alberta over the weekend claimed the lives of six people.

The deadly weekend left two dead in a collision Friday morning on the QE II just south of MacKenzie Road near Red Deer.

A 93-year-old man from Sundre and a 78-year-old man from Rocky Mountain House died in a collision, with a 70-year-old woman from Sundre being taken to hospital in life-threatening condition. The investigation into the cause is still underway however early reports suggest a vehicle was trying to merge back into traffic when the collision occurred.

Later on Friday, another fatal collision between a sedan and a pickup truck happened on Highway 1 near Township Road 164 near Brooks. EMS pronounced three people deceased at the scene. A 37-year-old man, a 31-year-old woman from Medicine Hat, and a 33-year-old from Redcliff all died as a result of the crash. Six people in the pickup truck received medical attention but none were deemed life-threatening. It appears the sedan was speeding, crossed the meridian, and collided with the pickup.

Then on Saturday, a 24-year-old from Winnipeg was hit and killed by a vehicle as the 24-year-old was placing cones around a semi-truck that had broken down on the side of Highway 2 near Wetaskiwin. The driver of the vehicle stayed on the scene until EMS and RCMP arrived.
