Erin Brassard, founder of STAND ASA (Stand Against Sexual Assault) is another woman in the community of Strathmore who amplifies what it means to celebrate womanhood on International Women's Day (IWD).

Brassard is a beacon of hope and support for survivors of sexual violence in the community of Strathmore.

STAND ASA, the organization Brassard co-founded, serves as a vital sanctuary for those affected by sexual assault, offering a safe space where victims can find solace, support, and solidarity.

Brassard, herself a survivor of assault, understands the profound significance of creating such a haven.

"In our society, we've always been taught as women to protect ourselves against being raped. Men are not taught this, which puts blame and shame on the victim," Brassard explains, shedding light on the prevalent gender dynamics surrounding sexual violence.

For Brassard, the journey of healing begins with breaking the silence.

"Your healing starts with telling, and there's a lot of healing in being believed and knowing it's not your fault and knowing that you're not alone," she emphasizes, underscoring the transformative power of validation and support.

Beyond her advocacy work, Brassard channels her passion into coaching the Strathmore U14 Chaos Girls Volleyball team, where she mentors young women not only in sports but also in life.

"It is about girls being able to find their voice and stand up for not only yourself but for your girlfriends," she asserts, highlighting the importance of instilling confidence and resilience in the next generation.

Reflecting on her own journey, Brassard offers sage advice to her younger self, affirming the resilience inherent within her.

"You are going to find your way," she assures as she embodies the unwavering spirit of perseverance and determination.

Brassard draws inspiration from the women who have shaped her path, including her best friend Kate Sawyer, survivors of sexual violence, and her colleague Corinne Ball.

"Kate, who I have named my daughter after, is a woman who has always believed in me and has given me the confidence to dream big," Brassard shares.

She admires the resilience and positivity embodied by survivors of sexual violence.

Brassard also seeks to emulate the vibrant spirit of her colleague Corinne Ball.

As Strathmore prepares to celebrate International Women's Day, Erin Brassard stands as a shining example of courage, compassion, and unwavering dedication to the empowerment of women.

Through her tireless advocacy and mentorship, she continues to uplift and inspire countless individuals, leaving an indelible mark on her community and beyond.
