The Canadian flag outside of the fire department in Strathmore was flown at half mast today as a way to honour Castor Fire Department’s Stephen Rayfield. Rayfield was killed and Fire Chief Patrick Kelly was injured as they went to respond to a call on February 4.

At this week's Town Council meeting Strathmore Mayor Pat Fule said, "We would like to start this evening by extending our sincere condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of firefighter Stephen Rayfield of the Castor Fire Department who was killed in the line of duty on the evening of February 4th. The men and women of today's fire service are confronted with more dangerous work environments than ever before.”

“Although this is the case, they continually answer the call to save lives and protect property and sometimes like this at a terrible cost.,” said Fule.“We will honour Stephen by flying our flags at the Strathmore Fire Department at half-mast and will provide assistance to the family in the coming days as the details are made public.”

The Town Council held a moment of silence after the statement.
