The Strathmore Wheatland Kings were back on the ice Friday night taking on High River in game two of the first round of the HJHL playoffs. With a win in game two the team secured a spot in the second round.

They went into High River and did just that with a final score of 6-2. General Manager Lee Smith said it came down to doing what they know, and doing it well, “We played a well-balanced game. We were aggressive and finished our checks.”

In the first period, the Kings started the game strong with 3 goals. At 19:12 team points leader, Jayden Hendricks got the game's first goal unassisted, with the second coming from Kage Yellowfly at 17:31 assisted by Chase Clayton and Garret Vander Ploeg, and not to be outdone rookie Josh Alberda got on the score sheet with the team's third goal at 9:24 unassisted.

At the end of the first period, the score was 3-1 for the Kings, the second period was quiet on the scoreboard with neither team scoring any goals.

In the third, the Kings found their way back on the score sheet with familiar faces. Josh Alberda got the scoring started at 18:29 once again unassisted, Jayden Hendricks got his second goal of the night at 16:59 assisted by Lachlan Stewart and Gavin Smith, with Ethan Van Egmond rounding out the scoring at 10:15 assisted by Kage Yellowfly and Jaycob Masciangelo.

With that win, the Kings on moving onto round two of the playoffs and will meet the top-seeded team in their division the Okotoks Bisons in a best of 7 series. The first two games of the series will be in Okotoks, game three will be the team's next home game on Saturday, February 19.
