What a way to end a hockey season?  It was a gold medal at a prestigious international hockey tournament for members of the Strathmore Storm U15 Hockey team past weekend.

The team traveled to Richmond B.C. for the Richmond Ice Classic Tournament, where they placed first in the tournament tying their first game, later winning four more games, and defeating the home team from Richmond to take home the gold medal.

Team manager Jodi Vanderlaan says “They really wanted it. They played hard and that whole weekend was awesome.”

“A lot of these kids won't ever get a chance to do something like that, it's very rare that you're able to, or any team is able to go that far or to such a huge tournament,” she said.

“And it just worked out well with our sponsors and our coaches and the kids they really wanted it and so they did a lot of fundraising to make it happen. It was a great experience for them,” she said.

The hockey season is now over for the U15 Strathmore Storm.

Over the season the team worked well together, they acquired an affiliated goalie from Okotoks and called up another young player to U15.

Vanderlaan explained that about half of the team will be moving up into the U18 division and half will remain in U15.
