There’s a lot of practice and hard work that goes into winning a hockey game. There’s some luck in it too. This season’s U18AA Wheatland Chiefs really gel together.

Ahead of next Sunday’s game against the Bow Valley Timberwolves, head coach Colton Grant says,

“I think we've been playing pretty good from the start of the season on. We've got a good group of kids that really meshed together really well and bought into the systems right away so it's made the start of the season pretty efficient as far as getting wins early on.”

“Looking at Sunday and moving forwards, a lot of that'll just be building up our execution of doing things the right way.” The coach says that at this time of year every team is getting better and better as they approach the end of the year." He says, “We’ll be increasing our execution and making sure that we're staying hungry and staying engaged and working hard throughout the rest of the year.”

This season’s Wheatland Chiefs have a handful of returning players.

“Most of them are actually new to the Chiefs. It’s a little bit of a mix there,” said Grant.

The Wheatland Chiefs are at the top of the South Division in the South Central Alberta Hockey League with 12 wins and three losses.

On Sunday the Chiefs will take on the Bow Valley Timberwolves at home at the Family Centre at 4:15 p.m.
