The Wheatland Kings were home and away this weekend with two games taking a win and a loss keeping them in fourth place in the division.

On Friday night they lost to the High River Flyers 6-5 this is the second loss in a row to High River and GM Lee Smith feels that the Flyers have made a turnaround this season which the Kings need to catch up to.

"They've improved a ton, they just kind of got our number right now, and it looks like we're probably going to play them in the first round of the playoffs too, so we gotta get it together with them."

Turning it around on Saturday night the Kings met the Kainai Junior Braves at home and won that game 7-2, Smith said it was good to see the team really come together on Saturday and great to see goals across the board from their Captain Garret Vander Ploeg, Jaycob Masciangelo, and two rookies Nathon Feick and Ethan Van Egmond.

With remaining games on the schedule and where the Kings are in the standings right now Smith says that they most likely will meet High River in playoffs but should home ice advantage and during the course of the season they have done well at home against High River.

"It's the best of three and we'll have two games at home and one there we struggled there.  We didn't struggle with them at home, so I think that'll be a difference."

Having home ice advantage in the playoffs will definitely be a benefit for the team with so many Strathmore players they can expect the stands to be filled with fans.

Smith echoes the feelings a lot of the Kings players have about having some of the best fans in the league and support for the team.

"We do have the best fans in the league in our opinion, and we do get good crowds out for sure," Smith explained that they have a team with a lot of local players and that is a big draw for fans.

The Kings still have a few more regular season games to get through before they hit the playoffs, one of those being their last home game of the season on February 5th against the Airdrie Techmation Thunder.

The team is working hard and Smith said they are focused and working hard to finish the season with a few more wins and momentum heading into the playoffs 'which start in 3 weeks.
