Strathmore High School will be hosting the ASAA volleyball provincials.

The 3A tournament, which starts on Thursday (Nov. 23), will include the local boys and girls teams.

"The season has gone well so far. We started really strong and have even beat the best team in 4A. Then half halfway through the season we kind of fell off a bit but since then we are coming right back to where we started," said Mathew Dirks a player for the Spartans boys team.

Dirks said that he is hoping to show the province what his team is capable of.

"We work together really well... we just are focusing on how to get better."

Athletes from schools as far as Spruce Grove, Lloydminster, Red Deer, and Westlock will be making the trek.

Other details:

  • The opening ceremony for the tournament starts at 10 a.m. in the Strathmore High School gym.
  • The girls first game is against Brooks at noon.
  • The boys first game is against Central Alberta Christian High School at 2:30.
