The Wheatland King had a stellar weekend.

They started it with a 7-4 win in High River on Friday then capped it off with another win 5-2 against High River on Saturday.

Head Coach of the Kings Doug Raycroft says it was a pretty good weekend overall and they are still trying to build towards the playoffs.

“Every game we want to get a little bit stronger and without any injuries or anything like that. We have three games this weekend,” said Raycroft. “We are just trying to play well and play 60 minutes and really get into our own end and this weekend we were really good at that.”

Raycroft says the offence has been better of late with faster play allowing them to get more scoring opportunities.

With the playoffs just a few weeks away, the hope is they can smooth out their game even more.

“We don’t start games very well, so that is something that we are focusing on with the players,” said Raycroft. “When you play the really good teams in the league, you can't come out a little bit slow in the first period.”

The Kings will head to Airdrie on Friday and then come home to play High River on Saturday night at 8 p.m. They will then play Medicine Hat at home on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
