The Thunder Hauswirth team recently finished their season with a silver medal at City Championships last week, as they went undefeated all tournament before falling in a close contest against the #1 seed Okotoks Fury Schlaht in the gold medal finals.

While the Thunder were of course hoping for the gold, Head Coach Jolene Hauswirth said the team was still incredibly proud of a great tournament and a silver medal, especially considering they were up against the #1 seed and gave them all they could handle.

"Honestly I couldn't be any more proud of the group, they just brought it every single game. And from the very first day of the season, I just knew that the team was going to do something amazing. They just jived at the very beginning and they are just such an awesome group of girls to coach," she said.

The season as a whole was a huge success, as Hauswirth mentioned the team was coming off a gold medal win in their previous tournament prior to the City Championships, and prior to the gold medal game they actually beat Okotoks earlier in the tournament to advance to the finals, so even though they couldn't pull off the win in the finals they still had the pride of taking down the top team.

"The girls, they were just so thrilled like the smiles... I'm honestly going to miss those girls, they were amazing to coach. I learned a lot from them."

What made the season especially rewarding for Hauswirth was seeing how quickly the team grew and improved together, including two players who hadn't even played the sport prior to this season but quickly brought their game up to a high level. However, the most important thing to Hauswirth is that the team had fun.

"I had one of the players come in after saying 'thank you and thank you for getting me back loving the sport.' you know. That's all you can ask for as a coach, if they come back next year and play with a smile and they love the sport that's all I can ask for."

Hauswirth added it was an entire team effort, from the players to the coaches. She wanted to give a huge shoutout to assistant coaches Jeff and Tammy Goodwin, as well as the team manager Charlotte Trozzo, as she said she and the team couldn't have done it without them and they were what held the team together.
